PROJECT: Auction System

Post  Admin on Sat Apr 24, 2010 10:44 pm

Okay, so I went for a long run today and on the way I thought of a way to make a working auction system. Now, to my knowledge, no OT has this. The way it works is with a couple of simple commands.

* /showauctions: This will print out a list of auctions that are currently offered. They will show in your character chat in this fashion:
ID: 3346 Item: Dragon Hammer Price: 2000gp Seller: GM Arn
ID: 6753 Item: Crown Shield Price: 6000gp Seller: GM Chiz

* /showmyauctions: This will show only auctions that you have posted. If you have no posted any auctions, it will not display anything.

* /addauction X: This takes the item in your left hand and puts it for sale for X gold. Your auction is given a random number between 1 and 9999 to identify it. If you do not have an item in your left hand it will generate an error.

* /removeauction X: This removes the auction with the identity number X IF you are the owner. If not, it will generate an error message.

* /buyauction X: This will take the required amount of gold from your player to purchase the item with the identity number X. If you do not have the required gold, it will generate an error.

Now, understand that this project is still in the works, and there is a TON of code left to be written. I am writing this to get some feedback on the system from players while I am working o it. I have no idea when the system will be done.

Thanks for reading. Arn.

What they said^ You can also try to make a bank command ( /Deposit /Withdraw) When you buy / sell something off the auction it goes directly to your bank.

Unfortunately this system would be buy-out only. So you set your highest price, then hope to sell.

Also, backpacks of runes probably won't work, this system is for single items only.

Im sure I could find a way to make it work otherwise, but thats for the future.

In the future I'd like to add it to where it:

* shows stack size
* shows contents of backpacks
* has an item description

This is one of the best things a server can have.
If you have for example 100 dragon scales, would the 'basic version' recognise that it are 100 dragon scales and not just one?
Does your item also 'disappear' after you put it on auction? Otherwise people can put something on auction and sell it after that to someone else while it's still on auction.

The basic version would just put 1 dragon scale up at a time. Also, yes the auction system removes the item from your character.
